Kinnik is a veteran of stage, television and film. The Columbia, SC native now resides in Los Angeles by way of Atlanta GA where she spent 13 years. Kinnik’s time in Atlanta was spent working professionally in musical theatre and she later went on to finish as a Top 13 Finalist on the mega hit show American Idol. Soon after, Kinnik relocated to Los Angeles and won the Dreamgirls competition sponsored by the Ahmanson Theatre and Blackweekly.com and was flown to Italy to perform. She’s done more than 30 stage plays over the last 15 years. Her major theatre credits include: Dreamgirls, For Colored Girls and Madea’s Class Reunion. Hollywood and Broadway have also taken notice of her star power. Award-winning directors and producers Tyler Perry, Robert Townsend, and Kenny Leon have each cast Kinnik in their respective projects, tapping into her amazing vocal range and innate acting ability. Her film and television credits include: Trois 3: The Escort, American Idol, Playhouse 22, House of Payne, Hard Rock Cafe Presents and Gossip Queens. In 2010, Kinnik launched her production company, Dazzal Mi Entertainment, creating and hosting its first digital project, “Straight From The Sky,” a witty celebrity and entertainment news web-series.
In the summer of 2013, Kinnik made her film comedy debut in, Laughing to the Bank, written and directed by Brian Hooks, where she was voted a fan favorite and a noted “scene stealer” in her role as the stuttering waitress. Her proudest accomplishment to date is writing, producing and starring in the stage production, Sunday Mourning (under her Dazzal Mi Entertainment production company), which won three NAACP Theater Awards for “Best Female Lead” (Kinnik Sky), “Best Female Supporting,” and “Best Male Supporting.” The play received a total of seven NAACP Theatre Award nominations, including her nomination for “Best Playwright.” Sunday Mourning has been selected as the Official Opening Event of the 24th Annual NAACP THEATRE AWARDS, sponsored by Wells Fargo, taking place in Los Angeles in September. After recently premiering in Atlanta to a sold-out crowd, Sunday Mourning is slated to return to Atlanta in September 2014. Kinnik’s second effort and newest stage production, Pieces, opened to rave reviews in Hollywood in December of 2013, and is one of many quality productions to come for this quickly rising star.
